Ahmed Refaat, artistic director and founder of Egyptian Dance Arts Academy, is a folkloric dancer, master teacher and choreographer with over 35 years of experience. He started his career at the age of 9 in the El Gezira Youth Center’s Folkloric Dance Troupe where he worked for many years under master teacher Mokhtar Mustafa. At the age of 17, Ahmed became an instructor of this youth center and he was responsible for training the young and potential upcoming dancers.
In 2007, Ahmed was featured in the Reda Troupe’s anniversary show for the celebration of its founder Mahmoud Reda, which has been performed in Alexandria, Rome and Madrid. In the same year, he taught his first class in the Nile Group Festival in Cairo which was being held 4 times a year. Since then Ahmed has been giving workshops in every festival. In autumn 2008, Ahmed was teaching a full school semester in the EKC Dance School in Stockholm, Sweden with Mr Mohamed Abo Shebika.
In these last 15 years, Ahmed has been presenting his works in many international oriental dance festivals in Egypt and many other countries in Asia, Europe and Middle East such as Bulgaria, Croatia, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Korea, Oman, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and Ukraine.
Now a sought-after master teacher and performer, Ahmed is giving private classes in Cairo as well as traveling for workshops and festivals both in Egypt and abroad. With the times, he is also giving online classes and workshops.
He has set up his Egyptian Dance and Arts academy in 2022 with troupes in different countries such as Egypt and Hong Kong to further promote Egyptian dance arts.
